More than £500 was raised for the RAF Benevolent Fund after Whitby Town hosted a charity football match against RAF Fylingdales at the Towbar Express Stadium.
Players, supporters and members of the local community came together on Saturday for the fundraising fixture, which aimed to support the charity’s work with serving and former Royal Air Force personnel and their families.
A Whitby Town XI took on RAF Fylingdales in an entertaining contest, with the home side running out 4-1 winners. However, the focus of the afternoon extended far beyond the result, as both teams united to raise money for a cause that provides vital assistance to members of the RAF community.
The RAF Benevolent Fund offers lifelong support to serving and former personnel, as well as their families, helping those facing financial, emotional and practical challenges.
Organisers confirmed that the event raised more than £500, thanks to the generosity of those who attended and contributed throughout the day.
Whitby Town thanked RAF Fylingdales for taking part and expressed its appreciation to everyone who supported the event and helped boost the fundraising total.
The club said it was proud to have played a role in supporting the charity and strengthening its links with the local community through the successful event.
