Eastfield Police Station, Whitby Leisure Centre and Whitby Maritime Hub will have new solar panels installed.
It is part of a Great British Energy (GBE) scheme designed to help public buildings reduce bills, generate their own clean electricity and reinvest the savings into frontline services.
Local MP Alison Hume said:
“This is great news for Scarborough and Whitby.
“By bringing clean energy to Eastfield Police Station, Whitby Leisure Centre and Whitby Maritime Hub, we’re investing in the places that sit at the heart of our communities.
“Lower energy bills mean more money can be spent on the services and facilities people depend on, while helping tackle climate change.
“I’m pleased to have secured this support and to see our area benefiting from Great British Energy’s investment.”
The announcement represents the first stage of a wider £1bn national programme that will support more than 1,000 local clean energy initiatives across the UK.
Community groups, local authorities and organisations are being encouraged to bring forward proposals for future developments, including rooftop solar installations, hydroelectric generation and community-owned wind farms.
