Sight Support Ryedale is inviting the local community to join a free event raising awareness of sight loss and the support available to people living with a visual impairment.
The event will take place on Monday 21 September 2026, 10.30 – 3.30 at Sight Support Ryedale, Commercial Street, Norton, YO17 9ES, as part of National Eye Health Week.
The event aims to raise awareness of sight loss among people and businesses in Ryedale and highlight the advice, services and support available.
A range of organisations will be attending, including Sight Loss Councils, the RNIB Eye Clinic Liaison Service (ECLO), Guide Dogs Volunteer Campaigns Team, Community First Yorkshire and North Yorkshire Council’s Sensory Team.
Sight Support Ryedale members will also be there to share their personal experiences and show how the right support can help people live confidently and independently with sight loss.
Visitors will have the opportunity to attend informative talks, technology demonstrations and receive advice and guidance on living with sight loss. There will also be opportunities to meet representatives from local and national organisations and find out more about the support available.
The event is free to attend and lunch is included.
Victoria Dean, Chief Officer at Sight Support Ryedale, said:
“We want this event to bring people together and raise awareness of sight loss across Ryedale. There is a wide range of support available, but many people may not know what help is available or where to find it.
The event is an opportunity to meet the team and volunteers at Sight Support Ryedale, as well as other local organisations, discover the support available and learn more about living confidently and independently with sight loss.”
Sight Support Ryedale is an independent charity supporting people with visual impairment across Ryedale. The charity provides practical advice, information, wellbeing support, digital inclusion and a range of activities and opportunities to support people living with sight loss to remain independent, connected and confident.
