Scarborough’s ‘Moonlight on the Lake’ event cancelled

North Yorkshire Council has cancelled this year’s ‘Moonlight on the Lake’ event in Peasholm Park this weekend.

The council issued the following statement:

“Due to the deteriorating weather forecast and increasingly windy conditions, Moonlight on the Lake at Peasholm Park, in Scarborough, has been cancelled on safety grounds.

“With gusts forecast to reach unsafe levels, the safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff must remain our highest priority.

“We know this news will be disappointing and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, it will also not be possible to reschedule the event which was due to be held this evening and tomorrow evening (October 23 and 24).

“All ticket holders will receive an email advising them of the cancellation, along with an automatic refund, which will be processed within the next 10 days.

“Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

Animated Objects, the events company behind the illuminated lantern display said:

“We’re absolutely devastated after months of hard work preparing lanterns and illuminations to entertain visitors, but public safety has to come first, particularly in an outdoor setting.

“We completely support North Yorkshire Council’s decision to cancel the event. The safety of visitors and our team is our top priority, and it would be irresponsible to go against the Met Office advice.”
