North Yorkshire Police is appealing to members of the public in Ryedale to report offensive graffiti and to get in touch if they have helped to clean it up at locations along the A64.
The force has received a number of reports of racist, sexual and misogynistic messages painted on bus-shelters, fences, junction boxes and buildings along a ten-mile stretch of the road between West Knapton and Staxton Hill.
These have happened sporadically over the past six months, although the police say they have investigated a number of similar incidents over several years.
North Yorkshire Police believe there are more incidences recently than they are aware of as community-minded members of the public have cleaned the graffiti as soon as they’ve become aware of it, and in some cases, it has not been reported.
The force said:
