Hull City Council has confirmed that improvement works to Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Wawne Road / Bude Road roundabouts in Kingswood will continue into next year.
Initially, the council anticipated that this work would be complete by the end of this year.
The Council has blamed circumstances outside their control, a combination of delays to utility diversion works and additional utility requirements.
Contractors will use this delay to undertake more extensive pavement reconstruction works, particularly at the Wawne Road / Bude Road roundabout, as well as additional enhancements to the area’s drainage systems to ensure they can cope with heavier rainfall events.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said:
“The council appreciates the disappointment of motorists and the travelling public that these works will take longer to complete than initially planned.
“The delays are largely outside of our control, so we absolutely share the frustration and will do all we can to minimise any additional disruption that may be caused.
“Kingswood is a popular and rapidly growing part of the city, so it is extremely important that we as a council invest now to ensure its infrastructure is fit for the future.
“We’d like to sincerely thank residents and businesses for their continued patience and understanding.
“We will continue to work closely with our contractor and with utility providers to get this work completed as soon as possible, ensure traffic management changes are kept to a minimum and that everything possible is done to keep traffic moving.”
It is anticipated that work on both roundabouts will be complete by the end of March 2027.
